数ヶ月前のことですが、ロンドンへ新婚旅行中の友人から手紙が届きました。その手紙には、絶賛ハネムーン中であることや、親族だけで結婚式を挙げたことなど、割と大きめのニュースがさらっと書かれていました。この、いつでもチャットできる時代に、律儀なのか？古風なのか？と、思わず笑ってしまいました。
経緯を聞くと、どうやら友人は「どうしても海外から手紙を出してみたかった」そうです。可愛いですよね。
ロンドンでは本屋で切手を買えるようで、いろんな人に尋ねて切手を購入し、1束分の切手を全部貼って（カナダまでの送料が分からなかったらしい笑）空港にあったポストに投函してくれたみたいです。本当に行動力があります！
数週間後、無事に私の元に届きました！友人は届くか不安で、ずっとドキドキしていたそうです。（笑）
いつでも簡単にメッセージが送れる時代に、たまにはこういうもいいなと、人の温かさを感じた日でした😊

A few months ago, I received a letter from a friend who was on her honeymoon in London.
In the letter, she casually wrote some pretty big news — that she was happily enjoying her honeymoon and that she had a small wedding with only her family. In this day and age, when we can chat anytime, I couldn’t help but laugh, wondering if she was just being proper… or a little old-fashioned.
When I asked her about it, she told me she “really wanted to send a letter from overseas.” Cute, right?
Apparently, in London, you can buy stamps at bookstores. She asked around to find some, bought a whole bundle, stuck all of them on the envelope (because she didn’t know the postage to Canada), and dropped it into a mailbox at the airport. Such determination!
A few weeks later, it arrived safely in my mailbox!
She told me she had been nervous the whole time, wondering if it would make it.
It’s the kind of experience you don’t often have in this age of instant messaging.
It made me feel that sometimes, things like this are charming — a gentle reminder of the warmth of people.
