みなさん「Queer（クィア）」って言葉、聞いたことありますか？
最近ではLGBTQ+の一部としてよく使われていますが、実は歴史の中で意味が変化してきた言葉なんです。
もともと「Queer」は「奇妙な」「変わった」というネガティブな意味で使われていました。差別的な言葉として、LGBTQ+の人たちに向けて投げかけられることもあったようです。
でも、時代が進むにつれて、この言葉はコミュニティの中でポジティブに再解釈されるようになりました。今では「多様性を受け入れる言葉」「自分のアイデンティティを自由に表現する言葉」として使われています。たとえば、「私はレズビアンでもゲイでもバイでもないけど、Queerって言葉がしっくりくる」という人もいます！
「Queer」には明確なひとつの定義はありません。
だからこそ「Queerってなに？」と聞かれると、答え方が人によって違うんです。
- ある人にとっては「LGBTQ+全体を包括する言葉」
- 別の人にとっては「自分はゲイでもレズビアンでもバイでもないけど、ラベルに縛られたくない」という気持ちを表す言葉
- さらに「伝統的な性別や性的指向の枠を超えるアイデンティティ」として使う人もいます
つまり、**Queerは「固定された定義」よりも「自由に使えるオープンな言葉」なんです。
境界を超えて「私は私！」と表現できる言葉なんですね。
私自身、カナダで生活していて「Queer」という言葉をよく耳にするようになりました。最初はよくわかっていませんでしたが、今ではとても大事な意味を持っていることが分かります。特にイベントやパレードでは「We’re here, we’re queer!」と誇りを持って叫んでいる人たちもいて、力強いエネルギーを感じます。
みなさんにとって「Queer」という言葉はどう感じますか？

Have you ever heard the word “Queer”?
These days, it’s often used as part of the LGBTQ+ community, but actually, the meaning of this word has changed significantly throughout history.
Originally, “Queer” meant “strange” or “unusual,” and it was used negatively. Sometimes it was even used as a discriminatory term towards LGBTQ+ people.
However, over time, the word has been positively reclaimed within the community. Today, it’s used as a word that embraces diversity and allows people to express their identity freely. For example, some people say, “I’m not lesbian, gay, or bisexual, but the word ‘Queer’ just fits me.”
There isn’t a single, clear definition of “Queer.”
That’s why, when someone asks, “What does Queer mean?”, the answer can be different depending on the person:
- For some, it’s a word that includes the whole LGBTQ+ spectrum.
- For others, it expresses the feeling of not wanting to be limited by labels.
- And for some, it represents an identity beyond traditional ideas of gender and sexual orientation.
In short, Queer is a flexible, open word rather than a fixed definition.
It’s a word that allows people to cross boundaries and say, “I am me!” ✨
Living in Canada, I’ve been hearing the word “Queer” more often. At first, I didn’t really understand it, but now I see how meaningful it is. Especially at events and parades, people proudly shout, “We’re here, we’re queer!” — and you can really feel the strong, positive energy.
