🌈 Episode 1: What is 2SLGBTQ+? 2SLGBTQ+ってなに？

記念すべき１回目のLGBTQ＋関連記事はカナダでよく使われている用語「2SLGBTQ+」についてです！

カナダでは「LGBTQ+」という言葉に 「2S」 が加わった 「2SLGBTQ+」 という表記がよく使われます。

この「2S」が入るのは、カナダならではの大切な理由があります！

🔹 2S（Two-Spirit）とは？

「Two-Spirit（トゥースピリット）」は、カナダや北米の先住民の文化から生まれた言葉です。

カナダ先住民の文化において、男性と女性の両方の精神を持つとされる人々を指します。

先住民のアイデンティティや伝統を尊重するため、カナダでは 2S を先頭に置く表記が一般的になっています。

• Lesbian（レズビアン）
• Gay（ゲイ）
• Bisexual（バイセクシュアル）
• Transgender（トランスジェンダー）
• Queer / Questioning（クィア・クエスチョニング）

🔹 「+」が持つ意味

「+」には、上に挙げたカテゴリーに含まれない、より幅広い性のあり方やアイデンティティが含まれています。

つまり 「すべての多様な人を尊重する」 という思いが込められているんです。

👉 まとめると、「2SLGBTQ+」はカナダならではの inclusive（包摂的）な表現で、

先住民文化を大切にしながら、多様な人々の存在を認め合う言葉です。

私は、カナダに来たばかりの頃、「2SLGBTQ+ってなんだろう？🤔」と思っていました。

その後、それが先住民を指す言葉も含んでいると知って、「なるほど、カナダではジェンダーの枠を超えて先住民の方々も含めて多様性を表現しているんだ、素敵だな！」と感じました。

For the very first post about LGBTQ+ topics, I want to talk about a term you often see in Canada: “2SLGBTQ+.”

In Canada, you’ll often see “2SLGBTQ+” instead of just “LGBTQ+” — and there’s an important reason why the “2S” comes first!

🔹 What does 2S (Two-Spirit) mean?

“Two-Spirit” comes from the cultures of Indigenous peoples in Canada and North America.

It refers to people who embody both masculine and feminine qualities.

To respect Indigenous identities and traditions, Canada often puts 2S at the beginning of the acronym.

• Gay
• Bisexual
• Transgender
• Queer / Questioning

🔹 What does the “+” mean?

The “+” includes identities and ways of expressing gender and sexuality that aren’t covered by the letters above.

In other words, it shows respect for all kinds of diversity.

👉 In short, “2SLGBTQ+” is an inclusive term used in Canada that acknowledges Indigenous culture while celebrating the diversity of people.

When I first came to Canada, I wondered, “What does 2SLGBTQ+ mean? 🤔”

Later, I learned that it even includes Indigenous identities, and I thought, “Wow, in Canada, they go beyond gender to include Indigenous peoples and recognize all kinds of diversity — that’s amazing!”
